How to Enable Local Security Policy Utility in Windows Vista Home Edition

For some reason Windows Vista Home Edition user needs to access the Local Security Policy utility. Note that this is not the default condition for the version. To enable this feature, edit the setting in the registry. Here is the method:

  1. Click Start button.
  2. Select command/search field, type regedit. The Registry Editor will open.
  3. Examine the left pane to find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Lsa. Click on it.
  4. Examine the right pane to find: LmCompatibilityLevel. Double click on it and the properties will open.
  5. Search the setting with default number 1 and change it to 3.
  6. Some dialogs will appear. Accept it all.
  7. The computer will restart.
